Northamptonshire might not seem like a hot spot of musical activity, but you’d be surprised. There’s actually a wealth of talent right on your doorstep. Here are three of the bands taking Northampton’s music scene by storm.

1 OhBoy!

Northamptonshire indie-pop has broken into the mainstream. OhBoy! were formed in 2012 and have since played Glastonbury on the BBC Introducing Stage. Fun, bright, and poppy, OhBoy! are reminiscent of global bands like Taking Back Sunday and Man Overboard. They are playing Handmade Festival in Leicester on April 29 & 30. Tickets available here. Watch the music video for Carrot & The Stick below:

2.The Big Dirty

The Big Dirty are a rock band from Northants that are really making a name for themselves. With a mix of hard rock and melodic tones, they take inspiration from the music of the 70s and 80s whilst still managing to appeal to a younger crowd. Wild and energetic live, they’re a joy to see. But you might have to be fast, as recent shows have included headlining London’s 02 Academy, The Scala, and the 229. They are set to soon release a new music video filmed around the county. Watch the trailer below:

3. We Are GIANTS

A relatively new band, We Are GIANTS hit the Northants music scene January 2016. They’re a three-piece rock band with heavy drums and a shed-load of rock and roll. Their debut EP, Root Nine, came out last year.
